Praised for her “rich and beautiful voice”, soprano Erin M. Smith is quickly establishing herself as a versatile and dynamic performer on the Boston music scene. In New England, Erin has been featured with Opera Providence, Cape Cod Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, MetroWest Opera, The Hillyer Festival Orchestra, The Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, Piccola Opera, Boston Metro Opera, The Boston New Music Initiative, Opera del West, The Falmouth Chorale, The Concord Chorale, Portsmouth Pro Musica, and The Paul Madore Chorale among others.

Recent solo appearances include the soprano solo in Mozart's Requiem with Symphony New Hampshire, The Granite State Choral Society, and Nashua Choral Society, Mahler Symphony No. 4 with The Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra, Brahms Requiem with Portsmouth Pro Musica, Mozart's Mass in C Minor with The Concord Chorale,  Handel's Messiah with Chorus North Shore, and more.

Favorite Opera roles include Pamina in The Magic Flute (MetroWest Opera, Piccola Opera), Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore (Opera Providence), Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen (Boston Opera Collaborative), Despina in Cosi fan Tutte (cover, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre), Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro (BayView Music Festival), and more. Her solo oratorio repertoire includes Mozart's Requiem, Great Mass in C Minor, and Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, Handel's Messiah, Brahms Requiem, Haydn's Creation, Vivaldi's Gloria, Dixit Dominus and Magnificat, and more. 

In addition to traditional opera and oratorio repertoire, Erin is also an avid performer of new music and enjoys bringing new and rarely-heard works to audiences. Erin has presented world-premieres of works for soprano and chamber ensemble by Dale Trumbore and Timothy A. Davis and has presented regional premieres by David Biedenbender, Bruce Reiprich and Jessica Rudman. Erin also presented the Boston premiere of Oliver Knussen’s Requiem: Songs for Sue with the Boston New Music Initiative in 2012.

Originally from Michigan, Erin completed her Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in Vocal Performance and Music Education. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Iowa, where she was the soprano recipient of the Walker Graduate Quartet Scholarship.

In addition to performing, Erin is also an experienced voice teacher and music educator. She currently serves as a Lecturer in Voice at Saint Anselm College, serves as the Co-Managing Diva of Opera on Tap New Hampshire, and operates her own private voice studio. Erin is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
