Carol Koffinke was raised in a musical family which influenced her to major in music at Western Maryland College (now called McDaniel College). Her father was a prolific composer, despite an inability to read music, and therefore unable to capture his compositions which faded away as new music was consistently flooding his brain. Carol ended up scribing many of his works so that they would not be lost, and through this process she learned much about beautiful melodies, rich chords, and compelling lyrics.
Carol has a passion for vocal music. She has composed music for solo voice and piano, SATB and piano, six-part vocal a capella, four voice a capella, and piano quintet. Her most recent composition is a four movement cantata for SATB and piano, called Journey to God. This major work explores the spiritual theme around the premise that the discovery of who we really are is a process of slowly stripping away illusions of who we think we are. These illusions or roles with which we so closely identify change throughout our lives…thus the four movements. The work also incorporates solos/duets for soprano, alto and tenor. The text is original, as are the texts for most of her compositions.
Ms. Koffinke has sung in choirs throughout her life and is currently on the Board of Directors for the Masterworks Chorale of Boston, as well as a choral member. Having started her own business and sold it in 2018, Ms. Koffinke also volunteers with the national organization SCORE, which mentors young entrepreneurs to start and run successful businesses.
