Jean Danton

Professional Soprano & Equity Actor, Jean Danton welcomes all levels of training and focuses on developing a healthy vocal technique for classical, musical theatre, and pop/jazz styles. Basic acting skills are taught so that each singer has training in communicating their text and becoming a complete artist. Lessons are focused on the needs of the performer and freeing the instrument to discover each singer’s unique voice. Training as a singing actor includes monologue work, diction, stage presence and direction, audition techniques, and college and recital preparation. She is passionate about teaching both a healthy technique for singing and speech and the acting skills that singers need to become a singing actor in whatever genre they choose to perform!

In addition to her private studio in Malden, MA, Jean teaches voice at New England Conservatory (SCE & Prep), Boston College, and Salem State University.

Jean has performed throughout the United States and Europe on the opera, oratorio, musical theatre and concert stage. Highlights include debuts as soloist in Handel's Messiah at both Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center at Avery Fisher Hall; soloist with Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops, Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Baroque, American Repertory Theatre, North Shore Music Theatre, New England Light Opera, Carmel Bach Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, North Carolina Symphony, Greater Buffalo Opera, Boston Classical Orchestra, Rockport Chamber Muisc Festival, American Classics, Associazione Culturale (Italy) and The American Church (Paris).

As a prolific recording artist, Jean has several solo albums with Albany Records, Newport Classic, CDBaby, iTunes, and New England Light Opera (Classical, Chamber Music, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, and Christmas Pops). Television credits include PBS and Lifetime documentaries.

Jean also has expertise as a Stage Director of Opera Scenes Programs, (Univ. of Lowell), and Musical Theatre productions (New England Light Opera). She is a frequent Masterclass Presenter at New England Conservatory and is available for master classes for singers, actors and choral groups.

Ms. Danton holds a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance and Musical Theatre from S.U.N.Y. Fredonia School of Music (summa cum laude) and a Master of Music in Opera Performance with extended study in the Artist Diploma Program from the Hartt School of Music (summa cum laude)
