CONCERTO ITALIANO

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2021 4PM | ST. STEPHEN’S EPISCOPAL CHURCH, COHASSET, MA | $28 GENERAL SEATING, $20 STUDENTS

American soprano Amanda Forsythe and Venetian viola da gamba player, Cristiano Contadin, will present “Concerto Italiano,” a program showcasing Buxtehude’s virtuosic sacred arias for soprano, with trios by Purcell and Telemann written for viola da gamba and two violins. Buxtehude’s expressive and fervent airs benefit from an “unbuttoned” treatment of melody such as we often hear in Henry Purcell’s songs. Boston audiences who are familiar with Ms. Forsythe know that her engaging interpretation and ornamentation are truly “the stuff goosebumps are made of…” (The Star / Toronto)

The cantatas are complemented by instrumental selections that highlight Italian influences on composers such as Bach, Telemann and Purcell, and will feature violinists Susanna Ogata and Christina Day Martinson. American harpsichordist, Michael Sponseller, will complete the ensemble.

This is a unique ensemble with stellar musicians performing virtuosic music in an intimate venue. Don’t miss it!
