Dvorak: Stabat Mater
Company: Sounds of Stow Chorus & Orchestra
Sounds of Stow Chorus & Orchestra with Barbara Jones, Artistic Director, will present Antonin Dvořák's deeply emotional and poignant Stabat Mater on March 8, 2pm, at the Hale School in Stow, MA.
The Stabat Mater begins with the Virgin Mary grieving the death of her son. The ten-movement, superbly constructed work moves from this intensely painful moment to a triumphant arrival “in paradiso” in one of the grandest and most vividly portrayed apotheoses in music. The work displays great variety and musical invention, moving “from reverence to anguish to ecstasy” (Jeffrey Gantz, Boston Globe). The concert will feature a full orchestra and superb professional soloists: Dana Varga, soprano; Deborah Rentz-Moore, mezzo; Ray Bauwens, tenor; and Ulysses Thomas, baritone.
