Kurt Weill's The Firebrand of Florence CANCELLED

Company:
Emmanuel Music

Kurt Weill’s rarely heard operetta, The Firebrand of Florence will be performed in its entirety. Set in Renaissance Florence, Firebrand depicts the charmed life of famed sculptor, goldsmith and writer Benvenuto Cellini. Yet his lasting fame is due more to his lively account of himself and this period in his autobiography than it is to his work as an artist. Weill called it an intimate intellectual operetta. Ryan Turner says, “However, the Broadway producers turned it into a lavish, extravagant production, despite Weill’s intentions. I want to do this in a simplified version to see if we can discover the original conception of the operetta; the music of Weill and the words of Ira Gershwin."
