Melody First: Open Sing with Alice Parker
Company: Greater Boston Choral Consortium
For registration and details visit: https://www.bostonsings.org/event/gbcc-presents-alice-parker-open-sing/
How do you get to the heart of a song? What can a melody tell you about the meaning of a song? Join Greater Boston Choral Consortium as we welcome venerated composer, conductor, and teacher, Alice Parker, for a day of inspiration and music-making.
In the morning Alice will facilitate a song leader workshop where she will guide the group in focusing on communicating emotion through melody (application required; capped at 25 participants).
In the afternoon she’ll lead an “open sing” of familiar hymns to explore the relationship between melody, improvisation, and meaning (no application, but ability to read music is encouraged).
Presented in partnership with the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. The open sing session is FREE to students with valid student ID thanks to a generous Alfred Nash Patterson Grant from Choral Arts New England. GBCC is additionally supported by a grant from the Boston Cultural Council and administered by the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture.
