Fully-staged Faure Requiem performance - May 18 at 7pm

Company:
Boston Choral Ensemble

Boston Choral Ensemble performs Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem in an innovative, fully-staged production of this classic choral work on May 18, 2024 at 7pm at Lutheran Church of the Newtons (Newton Centre).

BCE’s Fauré Requiem will be fully staged by director Patrick Chiu, who is known for his visionary stagings of choral works. Patrick and BCE’s Artistic Director, Katherine Chan, have combined forces to create a highly creative and accessible way to approach this work. The visual elements of staging enhance the universal emotions expressed in Fauré’s music—desire, loss, community, and hope.

We are also collaborating with four outstanding Boston musicians on this project: Nathan Halbur and Carley DeFranco as the vocal soloists, Psyche Loui on violin, and Justin Thomas Blackwell playing LCN’s historic organ. In addition to these musicians, local actor Mordecai Choi will be playing the Narrator—a persona created for this performance—who will guide the audience through the emotional narrative of the Requiem.
