Providence Singers

We can't sing together this year, so the 13th annual Young Men's Choral Festival will be moving online. If you're a high school or middle school tenor or bass who loves to sing, join us on Saturday, January 30 for a series of three fun, fast-paced workshops:

1:30-2:30pm: Sight-singing and ear training with John Black

3:00-4:00pm: Choral Session with Dr. Anthony Trecek-King

VOCAL AWARENESS WORKSHOP

Led by voice coach Paulo Faustini, you will spend an hour doing vocal awareness exercises to:
discover the good physical sensations for optimal vocal production for the singing musician
become aware of the breath and use it as a sound generator
connect the body and learn to properly physicalize our experience as choral singers
demystify often used vocal terminology such as “chest voice”, “head voice”, “falsetto”, etc.
learn to access both the upper and lower registers of our range, while maintaining good balance in the middle
get in touch with the “articulators” of singing and use them to free the sound
answer any questions pertaining to vocal technique

SIGHT-SINGING AND EAR TRAINING

John Black will introduce you to Solfège syllables and the Curwen hand signs, starting with basics and building to include a variety of strategies for effective sight-singing.
