I Am What I Am: An Exploration of Identity through Music

Opera on Tap returns to residence at the Burren Somerville for a series empowering all voices in classical music. I Am What I Am (title taken from the famous song of the same name from La Cage aux Folles) is a celebration & exploration of identity through music.

I Am What I Am: An Exploration of Identity was conceived to create a safe space for artists & audiences alike to celebrate underrepresented voices & identities in the musical canon. Opera on Tap Boston recognizes the enormous font of talent within our communities & aims to present programming that is both inclusive & reflects the diverse experiences of its members on & off-stage. Each artist involved in this project was asked to choose music that has helped them find their way toward embracing their identity regardless of gender, genre, or voice type. In this intimate exploration of personal identity through song, we are excited to share a varied & thought-provoking program celebrating the individuality of our artists & audiences. From drag performances, to classical singers belting theatre & scatting jazz, to personal anecdotes & more, we are excited to invite & include audiences to share in this unique concert experience with Opera on Tap!
