Orfeo ed Euridice

Company:
NEMPAC Opera Project

The North End Music & Performing Arts Center (NEMPAC) Opera Project, in collaboration with the Boston Festival Orchestra, presents Gluck’s storied opera Orfeo ed Euridice—centered around queer love—with two performances at the Dante Alighieri Society of Massachusetts in Cambridge, Thursday, June 13th and Friday, June 14th at 7:30 PM.

Remembering that Gay Marriage was not legalized in Massachusetts until 2004, this iteration of the opera explores the story of lovers from the Queer Community in a place where self-expression and sexuality are unencumbered by politics or other oppressive ideologies.

NEMPAC is pleased to be working with the Boston Festival Orchestra and Nightingale Vocal Ensemble! Featuring Music Direction from Boston Festival Orchestra’s Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Alyssa Wang, and Stage Direction from NEMPAC Opera Project Artistic Director, Brenda Huggins, NEMPAC updates this classic myth and opera with an all-female and non-binary cast. This production of Orfeo ed Euridice is an intimate, wildly fun, and whimsical production of Gluck’s beloved opera about courage, grief, and love, set in the 90’s gay club scene. Love is love is love is love.

By introducing a pay-what-you-can model ticket prices are no longer a barrier for any potential audience member.

NEMPAC Opera Project 2024 is sponsored by: The Lupoli Family Foundation, Eastern Bank, The COOP, and Rich Vita Law Offices.
