Salieri’s Requiem & Kuhnau’s Magnificat

Commonwealth Chorale

Antonio Salieri was one of Europe’s most renowned composers during his lifetime, though his reputation has long since been overshadowed by his contemporary, Mozart. Johann Kuhnau, who preceded J.S.Bach as music director of Thomaskirche in Leipzig, was a highly regarded composer of keyboard and sacred music in his time. While Mozart’s Requiem and Bach’s Magnificat have become cherished staples of the choral canon these corresponding works by their contemporaries are virtually unknown. Come hear a rare performance of these unjustly overlooked masterworks by two remarkable composers.
