The Waking Sun: Kile Smith & Carissimi's Jephte

The Back Bay Chorale brings together two stunning works of sacred music that span nearly 400 years: Carissimi's Jephte—a haunting 17th-century oratorio filled with drama, heartbreak, and some of the most moving choral writing ever composed; and Kile Smith's The Waking Sun—a radiant, contemporary meditation on faith, transformation, and the mystery of hope. Composer Smith will give a short talk before the performance.

Together, these two pieces create a powerful emotional arc-from ancient tragedy to modern hope.
